Hi good afternoon doctors. I undergo lung ctscan last month and here the result of my lung ctscan. IMPRESSION: BIAPICAL FIBROCALCIFIC INFILTRATES as described, suggestive of TUBERCULOUS etiology. Histologic confirmation is suggested. What does it mean? But the result of my sputum test is negative. No acid fast bacilli seen. Please help me. Thankyou
Hello, Thanks for the query. I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns. As per your description it seems that you are having a fibrocalcific (scarring along with calcium deposition) over the apex(top) of your both lungs. Generally it indicates an old and healed infection like tuberculosis or fungal infection. They are not an active disease focus and no treatment is required in most of the cases unless you have clinical symptoms like cough or breathlessness. You don't need to worry regarding this as it is a harmless condition and no treatment is needed as of now. Your radiologist asked for a histology confirmation by a biopsy, but I don't think it is necessary. You can do a repeat CT after few months to look for any increase in size of the lesion. Sputum examination is negative means the disease is not active now. Consult a physician in case of symptoms like cough or breathlessness. Hope I have answered your query. Regards. Thank you
